ABOUT HEATHER DIETER BARTMANN Heather was born in England in 1945 and grew up in, then rural, Naperville, Illinois. She graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and studied Ornithology at Colorado State University. She maintains her studio near the foothills in Fort Collins, Colorado. Heather Bartmann directs her painting skills to the birds of Colorado and their habitat. These are approached with the enthusiasm and awareness that comes from years of close study. Often choosing the less spectacular, seldom painted species, she captures bits of their day to day lives, private moments often unseen by the casual passerby. Her attention to detail, composition and design result in a piece of work that has an easily recognized and profound sensitivity for her subjects. ACHIEVEMENTS Selected for "American Birds: A Flight Through Time" Exhibition at the Wildlife Experience in Denver, Colorado January 15th through April 10th, 2005. Selected for the "Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters - Estes Park 2004" Third Annual National Plein Air Event and Exhibition. Selected for the "Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters - Painting the Parks - Estes Park Plein Air 2003" Event and Show. Selected for the 2003 Colorado Governor's Invitational Show at the Loveland Museum in Loveland, Colorado. Featured artist at the Denver Museum of Natural History, Denver Audubon Society's 1975 Annual Bird Art Sale. Her painting "Early Arrivals" was acquired by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum for their permanent collection. Selected for the 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991 Leigh Yawkey Woodson ART museum's "Birds in Art" Exhibition. Selected for the 1980 "Birds" exhibition at the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Awarded "Best in Show" at the 1981 Wildfowl Exposition sponsored by the Women's Committee of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. Selected for the 1982 world tour of bird art sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation, showing at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, the British Museum (Natural History), London and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Selected for the 1982 Society of Animal Artists Annual Exhibition, Denver Museum of Natural History. Awarded "Best of Show" at the National Wildlife Federation's first annual "Wildlife in Art" show. Selected for the 1983, 1987, 1988 and 1990 Denver Rotary Club's "Artists of America" invitational exhibition.
